Alignment of machine rolls and conveyors to an accuracy of 0,1mm and better to correct tracking problems.
We have been using our laser Tracker ( Leica ) to do precision alignment of rolls and conveyors on a manufacturing plant.
Our clients were having ongoing problems with conveyor and feed belts moving off rolls and the tracking being incorrect.
Conveyor belt mis-tracking is generally the result of rolls being out of level and/or square. When a conveyor bed is out of level or square, the result is the conveyor belt moving toward one side or the other.
Initially we re-established the machine centre line and measured the alignment in horizontal and vertical planes of the major rolls. The large motor roll and head roll were misaligned and not perpendicular to the to the machine centre line. We then continued to verify that the snub rollers, carry idlers, return idlers and pulleys are all parallel to each other, remembering that every non parallel roller can cause belt tracking issues.
After we had a complete 3 dimensional plan of each rollers position we prepared a program to align each of the rollers to 0,1mm.
The client is now experiencing an over 80% reduction in conveyor down time and considerable increase in belt life.
